Macaron Cafe

It's probably a good thing that I've been backlogged. I've gained more experience since I've been back on a weekly basis after my initial two visits. I had initially heard about this new French cafe from Midtown Lunch. I went the day his review came out and got the pina colada macaron and a matcha one. I thought both were scrumptious. A macaron's a French pastry that is like a meringue. There aren't that many places in the city that make a good macaron so I was delighted that this cafe's so close to my office.

The Good

  • The 2 sandwiches I've tried- a duck liver and an Italian sandwich were both worth the price. ( I think they are $8 and $6 respectively). They're generous with the meat.
  • I dare say the sandwiches are comparable to Bouchon Bakery
  • The pina colada, matcha and mocha macarons are better than many other versions I've tried in this city.
The Bad
  • The macarons are the size of 2 bites and cost $1.50 each. The price is a bit hefty.
  • I tried the litchi rose, pistachio, chocolate macarons a few weeks after the cafe opened and they tasted stale. It was overly refrigerated and did not taste fresh. Maybe I went on an off day.
The Ugly
  • The place is too small. There's only 1 small sofa to sit and eat. It's like a coffee-bar, meant for take out orders.
Ever since my bad experience with the macarons, I've only bought sandwiches. It was upsetting paying so much for something that didn't taste good. The sandwiches are a great addition to the area though. A lot of people have raved about the macarons so I hope it was just a bad day for them.

Did you let the macarons sit at room temp for a bit before you ate them. They probably over refrigerate them because of the DOH.
