In a small walk down space on 74th and Amsterdam, Levain Bakery churns out one of the best baked goods in the city- Sourdough Bread filled with Valhona Chocolate. I was initially there to buy 4 chocolate chip walnut cookies for a museum outing with my compadres. Levain's cookies were listed as one of the Top 10 foods of 2007 in Time Out NY. If it isn't obvious by now, let me spell it out for you: I subscribe to TONY. The cookies definitely deserve an honorable mention. They cost $3.75 but they are huge, with chunks of chocolate chips and walnuts. Calling it a cookie is downgrading it. It's really one big muffin top and muffin tops are the best part of the muffin. The cookies were great but the bread was even better. I liked the mixed taste of dark chocolate and sourdough. It hit two very different taste buds on the tongue. It was a fun breakfast treat for $2.

The sour dough chocolate bread sounds like a real deal at $2. The cookies were excellent (thanks again!!) but holy crap, $3.75 each? And I don't know about it being a muffin top, cuz it was less bread-like and more cookie-like in the chewiness (like soft cookie chewy, not bad-chewy)... yumm... I should have saved that last bit :(
