Thai Me Up

SB and I walked by the joint last week and noticed it because of the cute name. After taking a closer look at their window display, we saw that they used huge loaves of bread for their Thai sandwiches. Since we were busy that week, we decided to meet up at a later time to try the place. The premise is very simple. They serve Thai sandwiches, which are apparently very different from Vietnamese sandwiches. You can choose either beef, chicken or tofu and a sauce- black(honey soy) or white (garlic ginger). Then they add those ingredients to 7 different kinds of veggies (cabbage, mushrooms, peppers, corn, broccoli, snow peas and carrots) and dump it all on bread. You can also get it over rice noodles instead of bread for the same price - $6.

After mulling over the short menu, I decided that the rice noodles would taste better than the sandwich so I got beef over noodles with white sauce. Other reviewers have complained about the messiness of sandwich. I can see why. They are not shy with the sauce. My noodles were drenched in sauce, which was great but I can't imagine eating a sandwich with that much sauce. The portions are huge. Had it not been my first meal of the day, I probably could have saved half for lunch the next day. The taste of the noodle concoction itself wasn't anything special. It's like Chinese stir-fry and I probably could have made it at home. But I have to say that given the sheer size of the bowl and the cheap price of $6, it is a good deal. We also got Thai Iced Teas for $2 each. They forgot to add sugar to it; it was not sweet at all. Probably just as well. It was a hot day and there wasn't AC in the store. The restaurant is a hole in the wall. Take out is probably a better option than sitting in.
